Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has poked holes in the move by some politicians and lobby groups filling petitions in court requesting to bar the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Notably, four of the petitions, including one filed by former UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala, were rejected by the High Court.
According to Ahmednasir, only Gachagua has the requisite standing to challenge his impeachment.
"How can strangers or third parties stop the impending impeachment of DP Rigathi Gachagua by Parliament? What is their cause of action? Only Gachagua has the requisite standing/locus to challenge his impending impeachment. I'm just surprised, indeed dismayed by courts certifying as urgent petitions filed by busy bodies," said Ahmednasir.
Notably, Gachagua’s impeachment motion is expected to be tabled in the National Assembly on Tuesday, October 1, by MP Didmus Barasa.
