Millions of the now-defunct National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) members were moved to the new health insurance scheme Social Health Authority (SHA) supposedly without their consent.
The move saw a section of angry Kenyans take to social media to question the seemingly forced transfer.
However, in a statement, Medical Services Principle Secretary (PS) Harry Kimtai noted that the Ministry of Health transitioned NHIF members to SHA as provided for in the law.
"We received inquiries regarding the transition of existing NHIF members to SHA without their consent. We wish to clarify that the laws, as per legal notice 147 of 2024, provided for the transition of all registered and verifiable NHIF members into SHA," said Kimtai.
The PS asked Kenyans to verify their profiles.
"This process ensures continuity of coverage, and members are encouraged to verify, update their profiles, and add dependents through our official SHA channels," he added.
