American content creator and live streamer IShowSpeed caused a stir in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) on Sunday after hundreds of fans mobbed his convoy during an impromptu visit.

The popular streamer received an enthusiastic welcome as boda boda riders and motorists trailed his convoy, while excited fans darted across streets and pavements to catch a glimpse of him or record videos on their phones.

The brief stopover temporarily disrupted activity in parts of the CBD as crowds jostled to interact with the online star, highlighting his immense influence among young audiences.

IShowSpeed, who commands millions of followers globally, was accompanied by Kenyan influencer Gen Z Goliath and Ugandan sensation Tenge Tenge during the visit. As of Sunday, his YouTube channel had amassed over 47.9 million subscribers, underscoring his global reach.

During his time in Nairobi, the American creator engaged in several activities around the CBD, including a motorsport racing challenge, drawing even larger crowds as his movements were live-streamed in real time.

The streamer began his Kenya visit with a surprise appearance at a Nairobi school, where students erupted in cheers as he interacted with them, further fueling excitement around his presence in the city.

President William Ruto welcomed IShowSpeed to the country, saying Kenya was delighted to host the global digital personality.

“Jambo IShowSpeed, welcome to Kenya, karibu Kenya,” President Ruto said in a social media post. “Kenya is not just another country; Kenya is a pulse, a feeling. Kenya is home. This is Magical Kenya, the origin of wonders.”

The visit comes amid growing interest in Kenya among high-profile digital creators and celebrities, who are increasingly leveraging large online audiences to spotlight destinations across Africa.

IShowSpeed is currently undertaking a 28-day Africa tour dubbed ‘Speed Does Africa’, one of the most ambitious creator-led live-streaming projects to date. The tour aims to showcase the continent’s natural beauty, cultures, talent and hidden gems to a global audience.

According to the official tour itinerary, the streamer is scheduled to visit 20 African countries, including Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Egypt, Rwanda, Senegal and Zimbabwe, among others.

Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Rebecca Miano, described the visit as a major boost to Kenya’s global visibility, noting that the streamer’s platform offers a unique opportunity to showcase the country’s diversity.

“Beyond the legendary safaris, the true magic of Kenya lies in the beauty of our diversity. Every corner of this country has a story to tell,” Miano said, inviting the streamer to explore local cuisine, traditions and community life.
