President William Ruto, on Wednesday, April 2, fired Irungu Nyakera as the chairperson of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) Board of Directors.
Via a special issue gazette notice, President Ruto appointed Samuel Waweri Mwangi as Nyakera’s replacement with immediate effect.
Taking to X, the former Devolution PS clapped back at people who were seemingly celebrating his sacking, noting that the position is not as lucrative as thought.
Nyakera, as the board chair of KICC and under the State Corporations Advisory Committee guidelines, his salary was capped at KSh 54,000 per month plus a KSh 7,000 airtime allowance.
"The sitting allowance is KSh 14,000 per meeting, capped at 10 meetings a year. No pension, no perks, no executive powers. Most chairmen are there to serve - not to survive," said Nyakera
