On August 23,2026, the Odinga family gathered at their residence in Karen to Ida Odinga weekend 76th birthday with invited guests only.

It was the first time she marked the occasion without her husband, Raila Odinga, who passed away in October 2025. Raila had always been central part of Ida’s birthday celebrations, together shared a glimpse of dance.

At the party, Ida’s daughter Winnie Odinga shared a message for her mother’s birthday, celebrating her mother for being there for them and taking good care of them too.

“On this day, this is the one day a year when the whole family stops, no matter where we are in the world. It is like a public holiday in this home because it is Mum’s day. We celebrate her on this day because she gives us all the other 365 days; she is committed to taking care of us,” Winnie said.

She shared how she missed Dad, who had always been there for them as a whole family, acknowledging the milestones he did for them and how he always stood by Ida’s side.

“It is a sad moment for all of us. Mum, it is particularly hard because in the first week of September it will be your wedding anniversary. There is somebody who should be here with us, and we miss him, but today we came to celebrate,” she added.

She acknowledged Ida’s strength in keeping the family grounded during the most difficult times. Her calm presence has often been credited with keeping the Odinga family united.

The day was marked and celebrated by love and solidarity as the family continued to receive support from Kenyans and allies.
