The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has unveiled a simplified mobile application process to help continuing students easily apply for their subsequent loans using the HELB application.
In an update shared on Monday, the board announced that university and TVET students can now renew their loans through a guided process on their phones. No paperwork, no queues.
All it takes is a few steps. Students start by downloading the HELB App from the Google Play Store and registering with a Safaricom phone number.
This generates an activation code to access the platform.
Once they enter, the users are prompted to create a 4-digit PIN for subsequent secure log-in.
After log-in, students are able to see their institutional and individual information before clicking on the “Apply Subsequent Products” button to start the process.
The app provides critical information before it sends the applicants to the “Get Started” tab, where they officially start the application process.
The applicants are advised to read the loan terms and conditions carefully, agree to them, and answer some questions relating to financial literacy, as well as specify how they would like to repay the loan after graduation.
Once everything is filled out and confirmed, students submit their request.
A confirmation with the loan serial number is displayed on the app and sent via SMS.
This digital application system is designed for subsequent loan applicants who have already benefited from HELB and are continuing with their studies.
