HELB Opens Advanced Nursing Loan Applications; How to Apply

Nurses and midwives who wish to advance their studies can now do so with ease after the Higher Education Loans Board announced that it has opened applications for an advanced training loan.

In a statement released on Thursday, March 5, HELB announced that it has opened the loan applications for nurses who wish to advance their studies. The loan, which will cater for an amount of up to Ksh500,000, has been made possible through the support of the Johnson & Johnson Foundation in partnership with AMREF Health Africa.

The loan, which has been termed the ‘Advanced Nursing Education Loan,’ will attract an interest of only 4 percent annually. This, according to HELB, is an affordable interest rate compared to other loans that have been offered for the same purpose.

According to HELB, the beneficiaries of the loan will not only have their applications processed quickly but will also have an affordable interest rate and an option of repaying the loan within 60 months. In the case of employed nurses, the loan will also be repaid through the check-off system, where the money will be deducted from the nurse’s salary.

Who Can Apply?

The loan has been opened for:

Pre-service students pursuing higher diplomas
Post-service students pursuing higher diplomas

Employed nurses and midwives seeking higher diplomas, undergraduate degrees, master’s, and PhDs

The application window will remain open until 30th June 2026.

What You Need to Apply

To apply for the Advanced Nursing Education Fund, the applicant needs to submit the following:

An admission letter from an accredited institution by the Nursing Council of Kenya

A copy of the applicant’s national ID and KRA PIN

ID copies of the applicant’s two employed guarantors

A recent passport-size photo of the applicant

For salaried applicants, they must also attach copies of their last three months’ pay slips.

How to Apply

All applications must be done online through the HELB portal.

Applicants are advised to:
