Kenya Primary Healthcare Progress

A World Bank delegation on Monday held talks with Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni regarding the progress of a joint health initiative to boost coverage of essential health services.

The meeting revolved around the Kenya Building Resilient and Responsive Health Systems Project being implemented by the Ministry of Health in partnership with county governments.

Leading the agenda of the negotiations was how to strengthen primary health care and bring the country closer to Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

The authorities also addressed some of the implementation challenges that have hindered progress in some parts of the country.

PS Muthoni said the vision is to build a stronger health system that serves communities at the grassroots level.

The World Bank team underscored the need for realistic, long-term approaches in order to get the investments being made pay lasting dividends.
