The General Service Unit (GSU), the reigning national men’s volleyball champions, triumphed over Kenya Prisons 3-2 in a dramatic match on Saturday evening during the third leg of the season at Nyayo Stadium.

The highly anticipated top-of-the-table clash delivered on its promise, with the paramilitary team claiming the first set 25-19.

Kenya Prisons responded in the second set with a 25-20 win, and then edged closer to victory with a 25-23 win in the third set.

However, GSU wasn’t done yet. The defending champions stormed back with a dominant 25-11 win in the fourth set, forcing a decider.

In the final set, GSU held their nerve, securing a 15-13 win to hand Kenya Prisons their first loss of the 2024/25 season.

This victory marked GSU’s second win of the weekend, following a 3-1 triumph over Kenya Forest Service (KFS) on Friday at the same venue.

Their scheduled match against Equity Bank on Thursday was interrupted when the power went out at Nyayo Stadium’s indoor gym, leaving the score tied 1-1.

Equity Bank had won the first set 27-25, but GSU bounced back to take the second set 26-24 before the lights went out.
