The third edition of the Great Chepsaita Cross Country is expected to electrify Eldoret County on December 6.
Last year’s race drew more than 10,000 participants, with Samwel Masai and Uganda’s Loice Chekwemoi emerging victorious in the senior men’s and women’s events.
This year’s edition promises to be even bigger. Event director Kennedy Tanui revealed that athletes from 41 countries are set to line up, marking the race’s growing international appeal.
With the event now recognised as a global spectacle, Tanui confirmed that a World Athletics technical delegate will arrive soon to supervise preparations and ensure the competition meets international standards.
Event CEO Barnaba Korir announced that registration has officially closed after the senior men’s and women’s categories reached full capacity.
He noted that the early closure was influenced by World Athletics regulations requiring senior and U20 entries to be finalised at least three weeks before race day.
A lucrative prize purse awaits competitors: the top three finishers in both senior races will take home Sh750,000, Sh500,000, and Sh350,000 respectively.
In the U20 category, podium finishers will receive Sh200,000, Sh150,000, and Sh100,000, with prizes extending to the top 30 athletes in each division.
