The government has disbursed 1.7 billion shillings to support families caring for orphans and vulnerable children across the country.

The Ministry of Gender, Culture, and Children Services announced on March 5 that the funds will be given to 430,998 households across the country through the Inua Jamii Program. Each household will get 4,000 shillings, which covers January and February, and will be paid at once.

The disbursement of the funds started on Thursday and will be done by the service providers of the Inua Jamii Program.

The funds are part of the cash transfer program for orphans and vulnerable children, which supports families with children who have lost their parents or are in difficult situations.

The funds are to help the children stay in their homes and communities instead of institutions, support the children in staying in school, and provide for their needs at home.

The cash transfer has continued to support many households in raising the children, especially with the high cost of living.
