Workers’ union boss Francis Atwoli has warned employers over delays in paying agreed salary increases, saying the situation is hurting workers.
Speaking in Nairobi on Saturday during a meeting, Atwoli said many employers are not honouring agreements they signed with workers, especially on salary reviews.
He said some firms are taking too much time to put into effect their Collective Bargaining Agreements during a period of high costs of living.
The COTU boss also faulted the FKE for claiming that employers can’t afford to honor what has already been discussed and agreed upon.
Atwoli threatened that employers who don’t follow these agreements will not be allowed in the upcoming Labour Day celebrations in May 1st to be held in Vihiga County.
Atwoli stated that employers who do not recognize the workers’ rights can’t expect to be invited to such important occasions.
He further said some firms dodge tax payments which he described as denying the state funds.
This comes at a time when workers are demanding better remunerations amid difficult economic times.
Some labor unions have issued deadlines to the government to enter into discussions.
