The Ministry of Health announced a temporary shortage of Rotavac Frozen, the vaccine for the protection of babies from severe diarrhea when they are 6, 10, and 14 weeks of age.
The Ministry explained in the press release dated 5th March 2026 that the global vaccine alliance, Gavi, had informed Kenya of the upgrading of Bharat Biotech facilities, resulting in delays of vaccine shipments for this year and the following year.
Currently, Kenya has available vaccine doses of 4,000 as of 3rd March, good for less than a month. The shipment of vaccines scheduled for January is expected at the end of April. Parents are advised to still subject their babies to regular immunization as scheduled.
In the meantime, parents are advised to take preventive measures against diarrhea at home by ensuring proper hand hygiene with soap, drinking clean water, and ensuring proper hygiene of the environment.
The Ministry assures the public of its commitment to ensuring the regular supply of vaccines as soon as possible. “The health of our children is our top priority.”
