The government has announced a Sh9.6 billion investment to enhance Kenya’s sports infrastructure by constructing five stadiums across key regions.
The project, which will span 24 months, aims to upgrade sports facilities in Kisumu, Nakuru, Mombasa, Garissa, and Eldoret, boosting both grassroots and professional athletics in the country.
This is a collaborative effort between the national government, county governments, Sport Kenya, private investors, and local communities.
The five new multi-purpose sports stadia are designed to meet international standards, with each facility featuring modern amenities to support a variety of sports including football, athletics, rugby, and community events.
“The project involves collaboration between county and national governments, Sport Kenya, private investors, and local communities.It will adhere to green building standards, focusing on energy efficiency and sustainable materials, with accessible facilities for public transportation and people with disabilities,”read a statement by Keninvest,a government body dealing with investments in the country.
Keninvest says Each stadium will be uniquely tailored to meet the needs of its region.
Kisumu’s stadium will cost Sh 2 billion, Nakuru’s Sh1.7 billion, and Mombasa’s sh 2.4 billion.
