In a move that will be a huge relief to parents and students, President William Ruto’s government has reduced the fee charged for all public university programmes under the Student-Centered Funding Model.
This follows extensive consultations with the public, students, and higher education stakeholders and is a direct response to concerns raised by students and their families.
In a statement seen by TUKIO.co.ke, Higher Education Principal Secretary Beatrice Inyangala directed public universities to adopt the new fees schedule by September 1, 2025, for first years and all continuing students.
All public universities are further directed to update their admissions and finance portals to reflect the revised fees of academic programmes.
"Government has lowered fees payable by students across all academic programmes. This bold step reaffirms our commitment to ensuring affordable, accessible, and quality university education, while maintaining the financial sustainability of our institutions," said Inyangala.
