Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki has announced that the government has allocated Sh56 billion to tarmac 1, 200 kilometers of roads in Murang’a County.
Speaking to residents at Kigoro in Maragua Constituency on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, Kindiki said the planned road upgrades would improve connectivity while supporting agriculture, trade and movement of goods within the county. Government road projects are also being implemented in other parts of Murang’a.
Kindiki noted that farmers were gaining more income noting that coffee cherries had increased in price from KSh50 to KSh130 per kg, milk from Sh35 per litre to KSh50 and better earnings from
avocado.
He further made reference to government subsidies that has allowed the price of fertiliser to drop from Sh7 000 to Sh2 000 per bag and that of certified maize seed to fall by half from Sh300 to Sh150 per kilo.
According to Kindiki, the cost of sexed semen for dairy cows has also fallen from KSh8,000 to KSh1,400 per dose.
He said two international-standard stadiums are under construction in the County, worth a total cost of Sh1. 8 Billion, plus other projects in electricity markets housing, ICT and health services.
Kindiki has further call on the farmers to make use of this rainy season while observing safety directives against floods and landslides.
