Through the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs under the Ministry of Labour, the government has released KSh 3,517,470,000 for the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer programme.
The money, which is intended to cover the December 2024 cycle, will be distributed to 1,758,735 beneficiaries enrolled in the programme.
The payments commenced on Tuesday, January 7, with each beneficiary set to receive KSh 2,000.
The government programme is designed to support the most vulnerable members of society by providing monthly stipends to cushion them against poverty and hunger, thereby improving their quality of life.
To enhance service delivery, the government is piloting a new payment solution using MPESA through the E-Citizen platform.
The pilot phase is currently being implemented in Murang’a and Marsabit counties.
