The government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, has announced the new price of maize amid the harvesting season.
Agriculture Cabinet Secretary (CS) Andrew Karanja capped the price at KSh 3,500 per 90kgs bag.
Karanja directed the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) to start buying the produce immediately.
The new price, Karanja said, will help farmers make profits as the cost of a bag currently retails at KSh 2,835.
The CS attributed the bumper harvest to President William Ruto’s fertiliser subsidy programme.
"During the 2022/2023 short rains, the Kenya Kwanza government launched a fertiliser subsidy programme to boost agricultural production and ensure food security for all Kenyans by reducing the cost of fertiliser to the current KSh 2,500 per 50kg bag," said Karanja.
