The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has secured a 20-year prison sentence against a man convicted of defiling a 13-year-old girl in a case prosecuted before the Garissa Law Courts.
Senior Resident Magistrate Hon. Njoki found the accused guilty of defilement contrary to Section 8(1) as read with Section 8(4) of the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006.
The court heard that between February 6 and March 11, 2026, the accused intentionally and unlawfully defiled the Grade 7 pupil after luring her while she had been sent to a nearby shop by her aunt in Ziwani, Iftin Location, Garissa Sub-County.
According to Prosecutor Dan Kariuki, the accused initially kept the girl in the Millimani area before moving her to Witu in Lamu Sub-County, where he continued committing the offence.
The locations were linked to his sister and uncle. Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested the suspect on March 13, 2026, following investigations.
In sentencing, Hon. Njoki noted that the convict was a first-time offender with no previous criminal record but ruled that the seriousness of the offence warranted a 20-year prison term. The convict was granted 14 days to appeal the sentence.
