Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed that Kenyans feel overwhelmed under President William Ruto’s administration due to high taxation and failing public systems, particularly healthcare.

Speaking at a church service in Kiambu County on Sunday, Gachagua urged the congregation to pray for Ruto, who has recently appointed Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to fill the DP role.

“We ask Kenyans to remain peaceful and pray for President William Ruto as he navigates the challenges facing our nation. Many people are feeling helpless due to economic hardships, excessive taxation, and deteriorating health systems, and the President has a significant responsibility ahead of him,” Gachagua said.

“We hope for prayers that God grants him wisdom, so that the people of Kenya can find relief.”

Gachagua’s remarks came after he expressed frustration with Ruto the previous week, accusing the President of betrayal and revealing his shock at how someone he supported could turn against him.

After he was discharged from Karen Hospital where he was treated during the parliamentary vote to remove him from office, Gachagua stated, “If anything happens to me or my family, President Ruto must be held accountable.”

In Kiambu he was accompanied by Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa (Kiambu) and fellow senators John Methu (Nyandarua) and Joe Nyutu (Murang’a), as well as several MPs, including Gathoni Wamuchomba (Githunguri) and Njeri Maina (Kirinyaga Woman Rep), among others.

Also present were MCAs from Kiambu, Murang’a, and Kirinyaga, along with former Kakamega Senator Cleopas Malala and former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.
