Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is reportedly gearing up to launch his political party as he intensifies consultations with Kikuyu elders and other influential stakeholders from the Mount Kenya region.

The move is seen as part of his strategy to solidify his position as a key political figure ahead of the 2027 elections.

Over the past few weeks, Gachagua’s residence has been a hive of activity, hosting a series of meetings with elders, opinion leaders, church leaders, and professionals.

On Tuesday, he met county chairpersons and patrons from various counties, where discussions focused on the region’s political future and priorities for 2025.

“They shared their thoughts on the challenges our community is facing and the opportunities for political and social integration,” Gachagua said after the meeting. “These engagements are critical in shaping a collective vision for our region.”

Insiders suggest that Gachagua is laying the groundwork for the launch of a new political party that will champion the interests of Mount Kenya residents.

While he has not officially confirmed the plans, his recent activities point toward the establishment of a party that could rival President William Ruto’s UDA in the region.

In a recent meeting in Nyeri, Gachagua hinted at significant announcements in January, telling his supporters to remain patient.

“I am engaging with religious leaders, business people, professionals, and other stakeholders. We will unveil our plans soon, and I assure you they will align with the aspirations of our people,” he said.

Gachagua has also emphasized the importance of forming a strong coalition to boost Mount Kenya’s bargaining power on the national stage.

His remarks have coincided with reports of ongoing discussions with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who recently confirmed their talks aimed at creating a broader political alliance.

“We are working towards building a strong coalition that reflects the diverse interests of our people,” Gachagua stated in a previous address.

The Kikuyu elders, historically influential in shaping the region’s political direction, are expected to play a central role in endorsing Gachagua’s new political vehicle.

Observers believe their support could provide him with the legitimacy and grassroots backing needed to challenge existing political structures.
