Kenyans will continue paying the same prices for fuel after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (Epra) retained current pump prices in its latest monthly review.

In the pricing schedule covering the period from May 15 to June 14, 2025, the maximum prices for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene will remain at Sh174.73, Sh164.86 and Sh148.99 per litre respectively.

According to Epra, the unchanged prices come despite a notable drop in the average landed cost of imported fuel. The landed cost of Super Petrol dropped by 2.95% from US$606.06 per cubic metre in March to US$588.16 in April. Diesel saw a 6.62% decline to US$594.60 per cubic metre, while Kerosene dropped by 4.52% to US$599.84.

“In the period under review, the maximum allowed petroleum pump prices remain unchanged,” Epra said in a statement on Wednesday. “The prices are inclusive of the 16 per cent VAT, in line with the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024, and the revised excise duty rates adjusted for inflation.”

This marks the third time in 2025 that Epra has held pump prices steady, offering some relief to consumers following hikes in January when petrol increased by Sh0.29, diesel by Sh2.00, and kerosene by Sh3.00 per litre.

In major towns, the cost of a litre of petrol will remain at Sh176.58 in Nairobi, Sh173.43 in Mombasa, Sh175.80 in Nakuru, and Sh176.62 in Eldoret and Kisumu.

Diesel prices are capped at Sh167.06 in Nairobi, Sh168.82 in Mombasa, Sh166.63 in Nakuru, and Sh167.45 in Eldoret. Kerosene will retail at Sh151.39 in Nairobi, Sh148.15 in Mombasa, and Sh151.82 in Kisumu and Eldoret.

Epra Director General Daniel Kiptoo reiterated the authority’s commitment to balancing consumer protection and investor interests.

“The purpose of the Petroleum Pricing Regulations is to ensure that importation and other prudently incurred costs are recovered while safeguarding consumers from unreasonable pricing,” he said.
