The leadership of the Grand Lodge of East Africa at Freemasons’ Hall has announced that the issue of unpaid KSh 19 million land rates arrears, which led to the closure of their premises by Nairobi County government officials, is currently being handled by their legal team.

The organisation maintains that it was granted an exemption from paying land rates back in 1994-a matter that was later contested in court and resolved in their favor in 2015.

In response to allegations of secretive practices, the group firmly denied any involvement in such activities, highlighting that they publicly support communities across the 40 countries where they have members.

The Grand Master Mason of the Grand Lodge of Scotland, Bro. William Ramsay McGhee, who is currently visiting Kenya, reiterated the organization’s openness and transparency.

McGhee dismissed claims of cult-like rituals, stating:

“Contrary to what some people believe, Freemasonry is purely and simply an organization where we try to make good men, better men. We try and instill in them values of integrity, honesty, being God-fearing…whatever they wish. It’s a society that keeps one or two secrets, but those secrets are nothing to worry about."
