Silas Jakakimba, a former aide to Raila Odinga, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of South Nyanza Sugar Company Limited.
The appointment, announced in a Gazette notice on November 29, was made by Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Andrew Mwihia Karanja, who also revoked Eric Osenya’s previous appointment.
Jakakimba, a lawyer, has been active in politics, notably serving as Raila Odinga’s parliamentary personal assistant in 2007.
In March 2023, he made headlines by resigning from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party and joining President William Ruto’s UDA party.
In his resignation letter, dated March 17, 2023, Jakakimba stated, “This is to inform your office that I have resigned, effective immediately, as a life member of the ODM party of Kenya.”
Additionally, Jakakimba resigned as the legal advisor to HomaBay Governor Gladys Wanga in July 2023, a position he had held since October 2022.
