Five Arrested in Kisii as Authorities Crack Down on Suspected Drug Syndicate

Five people have been arrested by Kisii authorities for a suspected narcotics smuggling ring following a Friday morning raid on several properties in Kisii Town that produced cannabis worth an estimated Ksh.2 million, alongside fake alcoholic drinks.

The raid, organized by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) and backed by an elite police squad, was aimed at targeting several properties in Kisii Town linked to a suspected narcotics syndicate.

Among those arrested is Geoffrey Nyabira’s wife, who is a police wanted suspect and already charged with drug trafficking at the Kisii Law Courts. The police state that Nyabira fled during the operation and remains still on the run.

NACADA CEO Dr. Anthony Omerikwa said Nyabira is a repeat offender and accused him of resuming his illegal trade despite facing an active court case. Documents seized from his residence reportedly show he had supplied cannabis worth over Ksh.1 million to distributors just hours before the operation.

“Let this be a warning to all drug dealers: NACADA will not relent,” Dr. Omerikwa said. “We are pursuing Nyabira and his entire network. No stone will be left unturned until this poison is eradicated from our communities.”

Police also seized counterfeit liquor from a wines and spirits shop implicated in Nyabira, showing the operation was also connected to other illegal businesses.

The five suspects are in custody at Nyanchwa Police Station and will be charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act. They indicate there may be additional arrests as investigations continue.
