The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) has denied allegations that it issued a statement linking student Regina Wairimu’s death to that of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
There was a post on social media claiming that FIDA-Kenya had called on the authorities to institute a criminal investigation into Wairimu’s death, with Gachagua being the main suspect. FIDA-Kenya denied the claims, saying that they never issued such a statement.
“Please note that this statement did not come from FIDA-Kenya,” FIDA-Kenya stated in the post on X.
The false information claimed that the statement was quoting the words of the President, William Ruto, and Martha Miano, the former aide of Rigathi Gachagua, which indicated that Rigathi was connected with the death of the student, Regina Wairimu.
The false information was urging the legal authorities to open an investigation into the death of the student, Regina Wairimu, while she was pregnant, as the post-mortem indicated that the student had suffered severe internal injuries.
FIDA-Kenya stated that they did not send the information, urging the people of Kenya to be careful with the information that is shared by people who claim to be FIDA-Kenya.
They urged people to ignore the false information speculating online and stay alert, as some people were impersonating them by sending false information with the name of FIDA-Kenya.
