A family of Isebania, Migori County, is asking for justice after the death of their relative, who is alleged to have died in police custody at Motemorabu Police Post in Kuria West over the weekend.
First of all, the deceased Allan Kamau Kimani, 40 years old, was arrested on accusations of cutting down trees belonging to his aunt. His mother, Mary Wambui, tells that the officers in the police station asked for KSh 15,000 as a cash bail for the release of the arrested man, an amount which she was not able to raise.
Wambui narrated that she was informed that her son was going to be sent to Isebania Police Station for court processing and arraignment. But after three days, she got a call from the police station instructing her to come where she was shocked to see her son had died while in custody.
The grieving family is now calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Kimani’s death, insisting that justice must prevail.
