Faith Odhiambo has officially handed over the presidency of the Law Society of Kenya to Senior Counsel Charles Kanjama during the Society’s Annual General Meeting held in Machakos.
The event brought together lawyers from different parts of the country as Kanjama and the new council for the 2026–2028 term were sworn in. He now becomes the 52nd president of the LSK.
For Odhiambo, the moment marked the end of a two-year journey she described as the greatest honour of her life.
In her farewell message to members, she looked back at the time she first sought their support to lead the lawyers’ body. She said members believed in her agenda, which focused on restoring the dignity of the profession, defending the rule of law, and bringing stability within the Society.
Two years later, she said she is proud of what was achieved.
Odhiambo thanked lawyers across the country for standing with her during her time in office, saying their support went beyond voting and extended to helping the Society carry out its work.
She recalled moments when the country faced tough times, especially on matters touching on the Constitution and the rule of law. During such periods, she said, the Society had to stand firm and speak out, even when it was not easy.
According to her, the courage to do so came from the strong backing of LSK members.
She also praised lawyers for their sacrifice and willingness to put the interests of the Society first, saying this made it possible to overcome many challenges along the way.
Looking at where the Society is now, Odhiambo said it is more united and focused on the future. She urged members to maintain that unity and support the new leadership.
“It has been my life’s greatest honour to serve you,” she said, as she signed off her message.
Kanjama takes over after winning the LSK elections held in February 2026, where he garnered 3,728 votes in a closely watched race within the legal profession.
He now faces the task of leading the Society in the next phase, with members hoping to build on the progress made over the last two years.
