Businessman Jimi Wanjigi has been arrested after presenting himself at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)โs Milimani office.
However, some quarters on social media questioned the rationale of the arrest, given that Wanjigi had been granted anticipatory bail after arrest rumors for allegedly sponsoring nane nane demonstrations.
However, a source intimated to TUKIO.co.ke said Wanjigi was arrested over unlicenced firearms found in his house and not protests.
"Police obeyed the anticipatory orders of the court not to arrest him based on protests. This is a wholly different issue," the source said.
Notably, on June 30, the Firearms Licensing Board (FLB) wrote to Wanjigi instructing him to surrender all firearms in his possession.
The board said the former presidential aspirant had failed to renew his firearms licence, thus he was holding them illegally.
This publication has learnt that the businessman did not comply with the 14-day notice by the FLB, hence his arrest on Monday, August 19, after the lapse of the period.
Wanjigi is being detained at Kamukunji Police Station and will be presented in court on Tuesday, August 20.
