Former member of Parliament for Laikipia North Mathew Lempurkel has died at the Kenyatta National Hospital, weeks after being admitted at the Intensive Care Unit.
Lempurkel was involved in a road accident in Exciting area in Ong’ata Rongai on his way home. He sustained serious injuries and had been hospitalised until he passed away.
He also served in the National Assembly on an ODM ticket, was known for fighting for the rights of Maa people, particularly on issues of land and culture.
Before entering politics, Lempurkel had been actively involved in community service. He was the chairman of the Ndugu Zangu Christian Community Charitable Trust, a Catholic Church-affiliated NGO that sponsored children with heart defects for life-saving operations abroad, particularly in Italy.
The society also did water projects, delivering water from the Ewaso Nyiro River to remote villages in Isiolo County.
