The Eleven suspects arrested by detectives at Kwa Binzaro village near Shakahola cult forest over allegations of crime together with terrorism in Malindi sub county, Kilifi County, have been arraigned in Malindi court with the DCI officers seeking to detain them for 30 days.
The suspects who include a minor appeared before Malindi Principal magistrate Joy Wesonga, but were not charged but instead will be remanded at the Malindi police station.
This happened after the Prosecution Chief from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) asked the court to grant the detectives 30 days to complete the investigations on whether the suspects went to the forest with their children and if the remnants of the original Shakahola network may still be active and regrouping quietly to continue with the indoctrination efforts despite government crackdowns and nationwide condemnation. The Case will be mentioned on August 22, 2025.
