An embattled Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Edwin Sifuna has raised alarm over the ongoing situation involving Raphael Tuju, describing it as a matter of national concern with wider implications beyond a private commercial dispute.
In a statement, the ODM official argued that the issue reflects a pattern in how certain disputes are handled, warning that it points to deeper governance challenges.
He linked the situation to other past controversies, including cases involving prominent businessman Jaswant Rai and a multi-billion shilling tender associated with deported Chinese investors.
The Secretary General claimed that such incidents suggest the use of state influence in resolving private commercial disagreements, a trend he warned could erode investor confidence in the country.
He noted that uncertainty in the business environment may discourage both local and foreign investment, contributing to economic strain and limited job opportunities, especially among young people.
The ODM official reiterated the importance of upholding constitutional values, particularly adherence to the rule of law, saying these principles are critical in maintaining a stable and predictable investment climate.
He further called on the government to account for Tuju’s whereabouts and ensure his safety, emphasizing that the state has a responsibility to protect its citizens.
