Education Ministry Releases Term 3 Calendar as National Exams Loom

The Education Ministry has released the official Term 3 calendar, which marks the final stretch of the 2025 school year.

According to the Office of the Principal Secretary for Basic Education calendar, the third term began on Monday, August 25, and will run up to Friday, October 24.

It is the shortest school term but most significant since it is when students sit for their national exams.

This term, there will also be two public holidays, Mashujaa Day on October 20 and Mazingira Day on October 10, both falling on weekdays. Students will therefore have two long weekends within the term.

National Exams
Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has scheduled a number of examinations under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) for Grade 6 will be conducted between October 27 and 30.

The Kenya Intermediate Level Education Test for special need students is scheduled to be conducted between October 27 and 31.

Between October 27 and November 6, the Kenya Junior School Education Test and the Kenya Pre-Vocational Level Education Test will be held.

Secondary schools will commence holding the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education tests for Form Four students from November 3 and extending through November 21.

Holiday Plans
After exams, students will take a break during the long December holiday starting from October 27 and their schools reopening on January 2, 2026.

The ministry has further advised schools that Term 3 is also a period of prohibition. School visits and non-essential activities in secondary schools will be banned in order to give candidates uninterrupted concentration during their examination.
