Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has announced that Mombasa, Bomet, and Nyeri counties are leading in nationwide registration under the Social Health Authority (SHA) platform, having each surpassed the 50 percent registration milestone.

According to the CS, Mombasa tops the list with a registration rate of 58.9%, followed by Bomet at 51.7% and Nyeri at 50.6%.

Other counties making the top ten in SHA registration include Elgeyo Marakwet (48.4%), Kirinyaga (48.2%), Kisumu (44.8%), Lamu (44.3%), Kericho (43.7%), Embu (43%), and Tharaka Nithi (42.1%).

Speaking during a visit to the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH), Duale shared that over 22.3 million Kenyans have registered on the SHA platform.

Of these, 4.8 million individuals have completed means testing to determine their personalized benefit packages.

He added that daily registration figures range between 45,000 and 50,000, with a single-day record of 52,893 new registrations. On that same day, contributions totaled Ksh 20.9 million.

“The overwhelming response to Taifa Care reflects growing public enthusiasm and ownership. Kenyans are not just signing up—they are actively contributing, which underscores the trust they have in this reform,” said Duale. “We urge all Kenyans who have not yet registered to do so without delay.”
