Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga has called for stronger cooperation among Kenyan law enforcement and criminal justice agencies in the fight against transnational organised crime.
Ingonga made the call during a meeting with key players in Kenya’s criminal justice sector and representatives from the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The meeting brought together officials from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Asset Recovery Agency (ARA), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and Financial Reporting Centre (FRC).
“Tackling transnational organized crime requires joint efforts, strong partnerships and coordinated action among all actors in the criminal justice system,” the DPP said.
The agencies discussed emerging threats posed by organised criminal networks and explored ways of improving cooperation, information sharing and coordinated responses to crimes that cross national borders.
Ingonga said the complex and evolving nature of transnational organised crime requires a coordinated approach involving all relevant institutions.
He stressed that no single institution can effectively tackle such crimes on its own, making collaboration and information sharing critical in disrupting criminal networks.
The engagement with the FBI is expected to strengthen cooperation between Kenyan agencies and international law enforcement partners in addressing crimes with cross-border links.
