Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reiterated the Kenya Kwanza Administration’s commitment to fast-tracking the country’s socio-economic transformation through strategic investment in infrastructure, healthcare, sports, and energy.
Speaking during an economic empowerment engagement in Shinyalu Constituency, Kakamega County, the Deputy President said the Government is keen on completing stalled development projects, including key roads that will improve access and open up local economies.
He noted that the upgrading of the Airstrip–Shinyalu Road to bitumen standard is currently underway, a move expected to ease transportation of people and goods within Kakamega and to neighboring counties.
“The completion of this road will significantly reduce transport costs and enhance trade in the region,” said Prof. Kindiki.
To empower young people and nurture talent, the Deputy President announced the ongoing upgrade of Bukhungu Stadium into an international-standard facility. He said the sports and creative economy holds immense potential for job creation, especially for the youth.
“We want to create more opportunities in sports and the arts so that our talented youth can earn a decent livelihood and represent Kenya on global stages,” he stated.
On healthcare, the Deputy President said the Government has set aside funding to ensure the completion of the Kakamega Level Six Referral Hospital, a facility expected to serve thousands across Western Kenya.
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has been tasked with completing the works by next year.
“The completion of this hospital will drastically reduce the burden on families who travel long distances for specialized care,” he said.
