The world is mourning the loss of a queen of Country Music, Dolly Parton, who was also a legendary singer, songwriter, actress and philanthropist, who has passed away peacefully in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 80.
Her death comes after she announced in May 2026 she was canceling a Las Vegas and said to be undergoing treatment for kidney stones for several years. Her family through her nephew confirmed the news describing her life as a rhinestone that shone for the world to see.
“A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also through her wit, warmth and kindness that made us all feel like family,” her family said in a statement.
Dolly Parton was born on January 19, 1964, in Sevier County, Tennessee in the Smoky Mountains, being the fourth of twelve children, building a career that spanned on country music, pop culture, film, television and business.
For seven decades, Parton stood as one of the most influential figures in music, with her unmistakable voice, inspiring generations of artists and fans with songs that became part of the American soundtrack.
She sold more than 100 million records, wrote more than 3,000 songs and won 11 Grammy Awards, including a lifetime achievement honor.
She always described herself first and foremost as a songwriter. “It’s my way of expressing myself. It’s my therapy,” she once said.
Parton collaborated with country music legend the late Kenny Rogers whose songs became some of the defining hits in the 1980s.
At the same time, President Donald Trump has ordered flags to be lowered to half –staff in honor of Dolly Parton following the country music legend’s death.
“It’s very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest country singers and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away…In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for one week’s period beginning tonight 6: 00PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The world loves you,” Trump said.
