Detectives in Nyahururu have intercepted 22,000 litres of suspected ethanol being transported from the Malaba border towards Nairobi.

Two individuals were arrested in connection with the illegal shipment.

Following a tip-off, the head of criminal investigations in Nyahururu led a team of detectives to stop a FAW truck carrying 88 drums (each with a 250-litre capacity) of ethanol, which had been concealed with construction blocks.

The truck, owned by Transmic Company, was originally hired to transport beans from Malaba to Nairobi via the Nakuru-Gilgil-Naivasha route.

However, the vehicle was diverted to the Nakuru-Nyahururu-Nyeri highway, where it was intercepted.

Truck used to ferry the illegal ethanol.

Driver Victor Mutinda Kitavi and his accomplice Dickson Wandera attempted to flee when the truck was flagged down but were quickly apprehended.

A multi-agency team, including members of the sub-county security team and KRA South Rift officials, documented the seized ethanol and arrested suspects.

The KRA team has since taken over the case, and both the suspects and the exhibits have been escorted to the Nakuru KRA bonded warehouse for further legal processing.

The two suspected nabbed after detectives intercepted the truck.
