The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have assumed the probe into the brutal slaying of gospel artist Rachel Wandeto who was fatally injured in an attack at Mwiki Kasarani Nairobi.
As the DCI, initial investigations show that the incident took place on May 16 2026 the day the singer was returning to her residence. She is said to have met a gang of three men along 11th Street near Obama Road, where the assailants inflicted physical harm on her before pouring a flammable liquid on her and setting her ablaze.
The victim was hastily taken to Kenyatta National Hospital where she sustained serious burn wounds that were about 75 percent of her body. She died from her wounds while undergoing treatment on May 18, 2026.
The DCI Homicide Directorate says detectives are making all efforts to understand the whole picture of this terrible crime and to find, as well as arrest, all those involved in the planning and execution of the attack.
In a release, the DCI vehemently denounced all forms of violence, criminality, and intolerance that jeopardize the safety and dignity of human life.
The body also expressed its sympathies to the deceased’s family, relatives, and friends while vowing to keep the public informed that the investigations will be thorough.
Authorities have appealed to members of the public with any information that may assist in the investigations to report to the nearest police station or share details anonymously through the DCI’s 24-hour communication channels.
