A police officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Starehe, Nairobi, is in custody after two women were arrested in Nyando, Kisumu County, over a firearm traced back to him.
The dramatic arrest followed a bizarre twist—after one of the women posted a photo of herself holding a Canik pistol on her WhatsApp status, accompanied by a bold caption warning that “no man can dump me and get away with it.”
Her stunt caught the attention of detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (Nyanza Region) and the DCI Nyando unit, who quickly moved in and apprehended her in Awasi town.
Upon interrogation, she led the officers to a friend’s rented two-bedroom house where the pistol, along with an empty magazine, was discovered hidden in a basin under the bed, wrapped in clothes.

Detectives also recovered a fake motorcycle number plate at the scene. The second woman, who owns the house, was arrested as a co-accused.
The women later told police that the weapon belonged to a DCI officer based in Nairobi, claiming he had handed it to them. The officer was reportedly on duty, nearly 400 kilometres away, at the time of the arrests. He was later traced, arrested, and transported to Nyando for further investigations and arraignment.
Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the source of the firearm and whether it may have been used in criminal activities. Authorities are also pursuing more suspects who could be connected to the case.
“This is an isolated incident and should not be used to judge the entire service,” said a detective involved in the probe.
