The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has rubbished claims published in the Daily Nation on Sunday alleging that detectives in unmarked Subaru vehicles attempted to prevent President Rigathi Gachagua from attending a service at Priesthood Fellowship Church in Kahawa West, Nairobi.
block Gachagua was accompanied by his wife and his close allies.
In response, the DCI described these allegations as entirely false, stating that they appeared to be part of a deliberate attempt to misrepresent the actions and intentions of the investigative agency.
“The DCI operates strictly within the confines of the law and has always respected the freedoms and rights of individuals and institutions,” the agency stated.
Additionally, the DCI clarified that the claim that the writer could not obtain a comment from the Directorate was inaccurate. The Director of Criminal Investigations had promptly responded, affirming the DCI’s commitment to respecting the independence of religious institutions, and the writer had acknowledged receipt of this response.
The DCI called on the Daily Nation to ensure accurate fact-checking, provide balanced reporting, and approach sensitive issues with due diligence.
The agency emphasized that such responsibility is especially crucial when addressing matters that impact public figures’ reputations and the credibility of institutions.
