Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes, Geoffrey Ruku, has justified fellow cabinet secretaries conducting nationwide sensitisation forums, stating that the engagements are part of public participation and not political campaigns.

While on a special programme outreach in Mata, Taita Taveta County on Friday, CS Ruku pointed out that the forums were necessary for transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance. “For the last few weeks, members of the national executive have been engaging communities across the country.

These efforts should not be mistaken for politics, they are about listening to Kenyans and explaining government programmes,” Ruku said.

He went on to assure that the government remains focused on development saying that President William Ruto has made it clear that all leaders must prioritise service delivery over political distractions.

“Development cannot thrive in an environment of misinformation and political bickering. The President has made it clear that service to the people must remain the cornerstone of this administration,” the CS added.

Ruku appealed to Kenyans to reject the divisive rhetoric and instead embrace national unity, stating that the country’s progress is not only a shared vision but also a joint responsibility.

During the outreach programme, the CS also led a relief food distribution exercise targeting vulnerable households affected by hunger in various parts of Taita Taveta. The initiative, he noted, was part of the government’s efforts to cushion communities from the effects of drought and food insecurity.

State officers role in what they perceive as political activities, has in recent weeks, been questioned by critics; however, Ruku insists that the government will continue engaging citizens face-to-face for inclusivity in decision-making and development planning.
