Cabinet Secretary for Health, Aden Duale, today flagged off 2,000 Cold Chain Equipment (CCE) units at Afya House in Nairobi, marking a major leap in Kenya’s mission to strengthen immunization services across the country.
The equipment, donated by UNICEF, will be distributed to all 47 counties to ensure vaccines are stored and transported safely, particularly in remote and hard-to-reach regions.
The move is expected to significantly boost vaccine effectiveness and accessibility as part of the country’s broader Universal Health Coverage (UHC) goals.
“This is a transformative step towards strengthening Primary Health Care and ensuring that every Kenyan, regardless of location, can access life-saving vaccines,” said CS Duale.
Themed “Strengthening Immunization Infrastructure for a Healthier Nation,” the event also featured the launch of the Kenya Integrated Immunization Data Repository and Dashboard Portal (KeNIVP) a real-time digital tool for tracking vaccine data and improving planning and delivery.
CS Duale was joined by key health sector stakeholders, including UNICEF Representative Mr. Mahboob A. Bajwa, WHO Representative Dr. Abdourahmane Diallo, Principal Secretaries Dr. Ouma Oluga and Ms. Mary Muthoni, and Director General for Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth.
This initiative reaffirms the government’s commitment to advancing health equity and protecting communities through robust and reliable immunization systems.
