Police Officer Set to Testify in Albert Ojwang Case Dies

The circumstances around the death of 31-year-old teacher and blogger Albert Ojwang remain unclear amid conflicting accounts from police and hospital staff.

Police claim Ojwang was found unresponsive at Nairobi’s Central Police Station and rushed to Mbagathi District Hospital for medical attention. However, hospital reports reveal he was brought in already dead, with severe injuries including a swollen face, multiple bruises, and a deep head wound.

The hospital confirms Ojwang’s body arrived at 2:00 a.m., with blood oozing from his head, mouth, and eyes. Nurses on duty stated that Ojwang was dead upon arrival.

The official death notification lists the police station as the location of death, contradicting police statements.

Authorities initially suggested Ojwang had self-inflicted injuries, but the medical and autopsy reports point to a brutal assault.

Questions now focus on what happened while Ojwang was in police custody and why he was transported to the hospital if already dead.

Police and investigative agencies have promised a thorough inquiry into the case, which has sparked public outcry and demands for justice.
