Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) deputy leader Cleophas Malalah has accused the Kakamega police boss of sanctioning the brutal attack on his driver.
In the incident, Malalah said the Kakamega OCPD, whom he identified as Mr. Rotich, and three other uniformed officers trailed his vehicle and forced his driver to stop.
"Disappointingly, upon confirming I was not on board, they commanded him to drive to an unknown destination. When he refused, they assaulted him so severely using a gun pointer that he was left profusely bleeding," narrated Malalah.
The former UDA secretary general claimed that instead of permitting the driver to seek medical aid after the assault, they detained him at Kakamega Central Police Station for hours.
The driver was later escorted by armed officers to Kakamega General Hospital for treatment.
"Shockingly, they attempted to destroy pictorial evidence on his phone—a crude attempt to conceal their actions - to no avail of success," Malalah added.
The former senator said they have formally filed a complaint with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to investigate the conduct of the officers.
