Church Mourns Death of Bishop Philip Sulumeti

Bishop Emeritus of Kakamega Sulumeti Philip passed away and the whole of Kenya’s Catholic Community mourns this loss.

Bishop Sulumeti passed away in a renal unit of a Nairobi hospital. He served the Church and spread the Gospel with humility and dedication.

“We minister to the Catholic Diocese of Kakamega and to the whole Church in Kenya and tell them the Gospel of the Sprit of the Lord and of the humble Priest Emeritus Bishop Philip Sulumeti who this night returned to them. We shall remember in the Church the service and the humility of the Gospel and the strong bonds of the Spirit of the service of the Priest and the Mission of Christ,” KCCB said.

KCCB mourned with Bishop Kakamega and the Bishop, clergy, and community asking them to be strong in this time and mourn in prayer.

Bishop Sulumeti was in his 80s and was the father of the Kakamega Diocese. After a long service and retirement, he could not stop guiding and mentoring.

In a message sent on Monday morning, Bishop Obanyi wrote to let us know that Bishop Sulumeti passed away on Sunday night at approximately 11 p.m. Bishop Obanyi asked Christians to pray for his soul

“Let us keep him in our prayers as we thank God for his life and ministry,” Bishop Obanyi said.
