The Confederation of African Football (CAF) leadership has dismissed rumours suggesting that Kenya could lose the rights to host the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Recent speculation indicated that Kenya might be replaced by Rwanda due to delays in preparations of key venues.

However, CAF’s Country Manager for Kenya, Kabelo Bosilong, has firmly refuted these claims, reaffirming that CAF remains fully committed to the original plan for Kenya to host the tournament.

“There has been a lot of talk on social media recently, but I want to assure everyone that CAF is fully committed to ensuring this tournament is hosted in the countries originally designated,” Bosilong stated.

Kenya is determined not only to host CHAN 2024 but also to prepare for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen expressed confidence in the country’s readiness despite ongoing challenges.

“We understand the concerns about the February deadline, and we share them. We’ve had numerous meetings with contractors and are relying on their assurances that the work will be completed on time. We are addressing any obstacles they face to ensure a successful outcome,” Murkomen said.

Nyayo Stadium is under renovations.

With the clock ticking, Kenya is working diligently to finalize renovations at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, and Nyayo National Stadium ahead of the CAF-imposed deadline of December 31, 2024.

The CHAN 2024 tournament is scheduled to take place from February 1 to February 28, 2025.
