Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) rugby sevens emerged victorious at the Driftwood 7s after edging out Strathmore Leos 15-14 in a tightly contested final at Mombasa Sports Club.
KCB head coach Dennis Mwanja praised his team’s performance and reiterated their ambition to clinch the overall national sevens circuit title.
“This is just the beginning. The journey has started, and we must maintain this momentum as we head to Nakuru. Our goal is clear—to win the circuit,” said an elated Mwanja.
The win denied Strathmore Leos a second Driftwood title, their only previous victory coming in 2009. Meanwhile, KCB added another title to their collection, having also won the Driftwood 7s in 2025, 2019, 2013, and 2012.
In the third-place playoff, Kabras bounced back from a 10-5 semifinal loss to KCB to defeat Nakuru RFC 21-10—an improvement on their fourth-place finish last year.
Defending champions Kenya Harlequin were knocked out of contention and fell 14-7 to Menengai Oilers, who secured fifth place.
Zetech Oaks earned promotion to Division One for the upcoming Prinsloo 7s, scheduled for August 2-3 at Nakuru Athletic Club, after beating NYS Spades 10-0 to win the Division Two title.
Meanwhile, Mwamba RFC—second only to Kenya Harlequin in Driftwood 7s titles with six wins—suffered a disappointing campaign, losing all their matches and finishing at the bottom of the standings. They will now shift focus to hosting the Kabeberi 7s in September.
All eyes now turn to Nakuru as teams prepare for the next leg of the series at the Prinsloo 7s.
