Boniface Kariuki, the 29-year-old street vendor who was shot by police officers while protesting in Nairobi, has died.

Kariuki had been receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital since June 18, after he was shot in the head along Mondlane Street.

Eyewitnesses asserted the shooting to be indiscriminate and that Kariuki was unarmed and posing no threat to anybody at the moment of the shooting.

IPOA confirmed that the investigations are underway and two police officers who were involved from Kileleshwa Police Station had already been identified in connection with the shooting.

Kariuki’s family described him as a hardworking gentleman who worked hard to earn a living from selling face masks in the city.

His death adds to the growing number of lives lost during recent demonstrations, therefore calling for economic reforms.
