The scheduled January 2025 national livestock vaccination drive has continued to draw mixed reactions, with critics questioning its safety.
One of the common fallacies about the vaccination is that it is linked to American entrepreneur Bill Gates and is aimed at altering the targeted 72 million livestock’s DNA.
Critics argue that the vaccines that will be used in the drive will be supplied by Gates.
However, speaking on Wednesday, State Department for Livestock Development Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke denied any linkage between the vaccination programme and Gates.
Mueke clarified that the vaccines that will be used are manufactured by the Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute (KEVEVAPI) assuring farmers of their safety.
"I have heard people asking where these vaccines are coming from, some are alleging they are coming from America, others from Bill Gates. I would like to clarify that the vaccines are locally manufactured by the Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute (KEVEVAPI), which is a government institution. The allegations that the vaccines are brought by Bill Gates are lies," said Mueke.
